Conflict Minerals EU: Parliament Adopts Draft Regulation

Today, the members of the European Parliament passed a legislative resolution on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council setting up a Union system for supply chain due diligence self-certification of responsible importers of tin, tantalum and tungsten, their ores, and gold originating in conflict-affected and high-risk areas.

This law requires all EU importers of tin, tungsten, tantalum, gold – the so-called 3TG – to conduct due diligence checks on their suppliers. Furthermore, large manufacturers are obliged to disclose how they plan to monitor their sources to comply with the rules. As soon as the Council has approved the text, it will be published in the EU Official Journal. The due diligence obligations will apply from 1 January 2021.
