Donation instead of Gifts

Reutlingen, December 18, 2012: Recognized as “Cool Vendor” by the world’s leading analyst firm Gartner, honored as “Innovator of the Year” by compamedia and the Vienna University of Economics and Business, a range of renowned new customers – 2012 was a successful year for iPoint-systems. As in previous years, the software and consulting company, headquartered in Reutlingen, Germany, has dispensed with Christmas gifts for customers and partners in 2012, hoping for their compassion and understanding for using the saved money to sponsor different regional institutions and associations.

In 2012, the donation to the amount of 2.500 Euros benefits three institutions and associations: the Regional Group of the Registered Mucoviscidosis Association (1.000 Euros), the Hospice Veronika (1.000 Euros), and the Discgolf Club Achalm (500 Euros). The selection is based on the suggestions of iPoint-employees.

The Regional Group of the Registered Mucoviscidosis Association (Regionalgruppe Zollernalb-Tübingen des Mukoviszidose e.V.) is a self-help group of parents with children and adolescents affected by mucoviscidosis (also: cystric fibrosis) from the districts Reutlingen, Tübingen, and Zollernalb. While there are no cures for the chronic, fatal metabolic disease mucoviscidosis, there are several methods of treatment for the symptoms. Due to intensive and advanced therapies and research measures, the affected persons’ quality and expectancy of life are improving and increasing continually. With the donation, iPoint-systems can support the self-help group in carrying out different measures and projects for improving the mucoviscidosis patients’ quality of life, which are not covered by the health care fund. Above all, these include: securing and optimizing the medical assistance of the patients by co-financing the outpatient mucoviscidosis department of the University Children’s hospital Tübingen, enabling home therapy via mobile physiotherapy, financing the position of a psychosocial employee, or funding research projects on more effective medicine and better therapies via the German Federal Mucoviscidosis Association (Bundesverband des Mukoviszidose e.V.).

The Hospiz Veronika, which is funded and supported by the Paul Wilhelm von Keppler Foundation (Paul Wilhelm von Keppler Foundation Stiftung), is located on the fourth floor of the retirement center St. Elisabeth in Eningen unter Achalm. It has eight guest rooms and offers seriously ill and dying persons intensive medical and nursing care and assistance in the last phase of their lives – independent of their origin, worldview, or religious affiliation. The accommodation costs are assumed by the health and nursing care insurances. However, according to the law, the Foundation which funds and supports the hospice has to procure ten percent of the costs itself, which is why the institution has to rely on donations.

iPoint’s third donation this year went to the Discgolf Club Achalm. Disc Golf (aka Frisbee Golf) is a flying disc game. The throwing devices are borrowed from Frisbee sport, while the basic rules, playing procedures, and terminology stem from golfing. On a course consisting of up to 18 sections, special, frisbee-like discs are thrown and “putted” into metal baskets. The aim of the game is throwing the disc from a designated starting point into a metal basket at the end of the section while completing the round in the fewest amount of throws possible; the subsequent throws are continued at the point where the disc last landed. Established in 2012, the course of the Discgolf Club Achalm at the Eninger Weide consists of 18 sections which are between 52 and 130 meters long. The innovation potential as well as the close touch with nature of this in Germany relatively unknown game were decisive for iPoint-systems. With the donation, the software and consulting company, headquartered in Reutlingen, has become sponsor of the fifth section of the course in the biosphere area in Eningen, which is in close vicinity to the barbecue area.
