EMRT 1.3 Released - Key Updates for Cobalt and Mica Supply Chain Reporting

The Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) has launched version 1.3 of the Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT), enhancing its capabilities for tracking cobalt and mica supply chains. This new release addresses several bugs and errors while introducing significant improvements to ensure better data accuracy and usability.

Key updates in EMRT 1.3 include revisions to the Smelter Reference List and Standard Smelter List, as well as the addition of a German translation to broaden accessibility. These changes aim to simplify reporting processes and ensure that companies can effectively track and report on their sourcing of cobalt and mica, both of which are associated with high-risk areas and ethical concerns such as child labor.

While cobalt and mica are not yet considered “conflict minerals,” the increasing demand and risks associated with their sourcing make transparency and due diligence crucial. The EMRT helps companies identify smelters, address supply chain risks, and ensure responsible sourcing practices in line with OECD Due Diligence Guidelines.
